Duesenberg Kavalier Bass Narvik Blue

The Kavalier is Duesenberg’s compact short scale bass. It has a single pickup and a simple layout, but more tonal range than you’d expect from one pickup. At 30.5", the scale is a little longer than a traditional 30" short scale. You get a comfortable reach and easy playability, with a touch more tension and definition in the low end. This one is in Narvik Blue with cream binding and a matching headstock. Narvik Blue is the only Kavalier finish with binding.

Construction

The offset body is solid alder with comfort contours, giving the Kavalier a punchy attack and good sustain. The bolt-on neck is a single piece of maple with a Medium D profile and a 40 mm nut. The Indian rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius, 21 jumbo frets and cream dot inlays. Like every Duesenberg, it’s Plek processed and then hand-finished and set up in Hannover, so the action can sit low and even along the whole neck.

Pickup and Wiring

The Kavalier uses a single Duesenberg Phonico Splitbucker in the middle position. A 3-way tone selector switches the pickup between three distinct voicings, from deep and round through to clear and articulate. Master volume and tone controls let you fine-tune from there. That gives you a lot of range from one pickup, and it suits anything from vintage-style thump to a brighter, more cutting tone that sits well in a band mix.

Hardware

Duesenberg Z-Tuners for bass let you tuck the string ends inside the tuner shaft. The Duesenberg 4D bridge anchors the strings, and all hardware is finished in nickel. The strap pins are compatible with straplocks. It ships with Duesenberg’s medium scale 50-107 strings.

It comes with a Duesenberg Custom Line hardcase.
