1800s J.E. Dallas Zither 5-String Banjo
$627.00
An incredible piece of history from the famed J.E. Dallas company!
Originally established all the way back in 1873, J.E. Dallas produced banjos out of a small workshop, manufacturing for a range of brands within London. The company was originally located at 415 Strand Street. After a period of growth and a minor rename in 1905, the location changed to 202 High Holborn Street in 1914. This particular example retains the original address on the back of the headstock as well as the J.E. Dallas name, theoretically placing this example being manufactured around or prior to 1905. Nailing down an exact year or period is unfortunately a fairly tricky task with these. A great 5-string zither banjo, this example has had a new bridge made of rock maple and ebony for it, a new nut cut, and the strings replaced. This example appears to be missing a faceplate at the headstock. Everything else otherwise appears original to this model.
Cosmetic condition is very good for its age with the expected wear present throughout. There is a split through the wood on the back, but otherwise appears structurally sound. Hardware is fully functional, and is playing well with a low-medium action. Includes a later period hardcase.
