It's always a good day when a nice Kay comes through our doors!
One of the iconic US guitar manufacturers, Kay were on a roll back in the '50s and '60s producing low cost instruments which have become much more sort after in the last decade or so. This particular example, dating to the late 1950s, is a K-100N Country. Intended to be in the same vein as a D-18 but with less curves, this example boasts a solid spruce top with laminated mahogany back and sides. Most importantly, this example also features X-bracing! A nice chunky 'D' profile neck is present with plenty of shoulder, making this a killer vintage player for the price! At some stage, a DeArmond RHC-B pickup has been added to the soundhole.
Cosmetic condition is good for its age, showing signs of wear in the form of dings and scratches throughout. There is a portion of finish in the middle of the back of the neck which appears to have been scraped off. The truss rod has been straightened as far as it can and the saddle is cut low. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium action. Includes a period correct case.
