A fascinating piece of pre-war musical history!

In the case of Western audiences, although it may not seem significant today, Hawaiian music was all the rage from the 1930s up until the 1960s. In an effort to meet the interests of players, Rickenbacker put out the Electro A-22 'Frying Pan' in 1932, becoming the first commercially successful electric guitar. Designed to capitalise on the Hawaiian music trend, Rickenbacker put out a range of lap steels, with the NS100 Silver Hawaiian releasing around 1937. It utilised a stamped metal body design, a hollow chambered body,

This particular example has a variety of features that we believe tie it to sometime around 1938. Notably it features the later configuration of a volume and tone on either side, bakelite bridge and nut, the earlier metal 'Rickenbacher' nameplate, and the earlier player side output jack. Later examples moved both volume and tone to the audience side, as well as the output jack. As the war efforts ramped up and rationing began to be put into place, the metal name plates moved to a more standard decal.

Hardware and electronics are fully functional, and sounds super cool! Includes what appears to be an original case.
