An excellent piece of American instrument manufacturing history!

The Oscar Schmidt company was notable for producing a range of acoustic instruments for the likes of Stella, Sovereign, and LaScala in the early 20th century. The Sovereign was marketed as a more upscale instrument coming from the Oscar Schmidt company, which can be seen reflected in the various adornments on the instrument.

Features the moustache bridge typically found on these models, as well as intricacies in construction such as a bound fretboard as well as the ornamental intricacies present bordering the top/back of the instrument and the soundhole. Construction is ladder braced with mahogany back and sides, and a solid spruce top. Cosmetic condition is surprisingly excellent considering this instrument has just turned 100! Two hairline cracks are located on the back, however they don't appear to be cause for any structural concern. There is also notable present on the audience side of the sound-hole.

A truly beautiful sounding and historic instrument, this example is light weight and incredibly resonant. Boxy and gruff sounding, this example has the kind of volume and clarity that defies its small stature. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium action.
