1930s Kay Kraft Style A Venetian Spruce

One of the most unique instruments we've ever encountered!

Echoing the design of Venetian mandolins, this example dating to the 1930s from Kay showcases an extraordinarily unique body design. Comprised of an arched spruce top in tandem with arched mahogany back and sides, this example has a period correct deep 'V' profile mahogany neck with what appears to be an ebonized maple fretboard. One of the unique design points of this example is a bolted on neck with convex profile. A piece of wood with a convex profile is bolted between the body and neck, allowing the angle the neck to be altered. Has a roughly 1 3/4" nut width in tandem with a 25 3/4" scale length Tuners and bridge appear to be original to the example, with a piece of brass placed between the tailpiece and body being non-original. At some stage, it appear that there has been a headstock repair that is structurally sound. 

Cosmetic condition is very good for its age, showing the expected signs of wear in the form of scratches, dings, gouges, and overall playwear. Hardware is fully functional, and plays with a medium-high action. Includes a vintage chipboard case.
