A stunning example from the late 1930s!
It's not everyday that such a well preserved example such as this shows up! Dating to approximately 1937, this particular example is a Model 37 Square Neck. Features a laminated mahogany body with two round screen holes. Binding is present on the body as is the addition of a 'poinsettia' coverplate. This example features a solid headstock as opposed to typically seen 'slotted' versions which features a serial number at the top side, in addition to a 'made in USA' stamp on the back of the headstock. This appears to align it with being an export model, which is reinforced by the branding of L. Stanley Johnson Pty Ltd, who were importing Dobros in the 1930s. The only defect of note is a headstock crack which runs from the back of the headstock under the high E, towards the front of the headstock, finishing near the B string. It appears to be stable and repaired quite some time ago. All in all a stunning example, and a piece of music history!
Cosmetic condition is very good for its age, with the expected signs of patina and finish wear present throughout in addition to various small dings and scratches. Hardware is fully functional. Includes the original case with 'L. Stanley Johnson Pty Ltd' branding in the interior.
